Long · ~130 words
La Vie is a design, development and consulting firm specialising in ageing-in-place housing solutions, also known as universal architecture or future-proofed living. It exists because of Sandra Richards, the grandmother of founder Gisele Benkemoun, who wanted to stay in a home that felt like hers and adapted to her changing needs without ever making her feel less than herself. Gisele's Master of Architecture at the University of Melbourne explored a multigenerational, ageing-in-place home, and became a decade-long commitment to understanding how architecture can serve every stage of life. Today La Vie works with consumers who want to remain in their own homes, with architects and developers who want to serve this market, and drives the development of owner-occupied, future-proofed communities across Melbourne. A PhD in ageing-in-place architecture is in development.
“At La Vie, ageing-in-place, universal architecture or future-proofed living, mean the same thing. One philosophy, built for everyone.”
